Born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, Larson moved to the Tidewater, Virginia area in the late 60s as a member of the military and began playing solo at area establishments, while fast building a reputation and a devoted following, while honing his singer/songwriting craft with the likes of Emmy Lou Harris, Scott McKenzie, Kenny Malone and Roy Bookbinder to name a few at THE songwriters haven, The Red Mule Inn in Norfolk Va, and in the DC area especially Georgetown.

Career highlight of note is that in 1974 Coyote was awarded top prize for his original tune “Heaven” in The American Song Festival Contest and it was later he joined the band Snuff in the 80s. To their credit Snuff sold over 40,000 records (Electra Asylum, MCA and Warner Bros, and Curb) they filled houses to capacity wherever they played.
